20th Cyprus Contemporary Dance Festival

The most important Dance Contemporary Dance Festival of our country returns this June in Nicosia, Limassol and Pafos

For 20 consecutive years, the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Rialto Theatre organize the most important Contemporary Dance Festival in our country. A festival, which has been embraced by dance friends in Cyprus, while having won a special place in the world map of the respective Festivals, presenting the latest trends and creations highlighting the evolution of contemporary dance internationally.

The aim of the Festival is to present to the audience of Cyprus the trends, creations and currents of contemporary dance, while setting bridges with the world choreographic community. The dynamics and breadth of the Festival were awarded with EFFE Label 2017-2018, which is a very important international recognition.

The Festival collaborates this year with the European Capital of Culture - Pafos 2017 and further extends its horizons with the participation of Japan's group, MOTOKO HIRAYAMA in the framework of Paphos2017's cooperation with the Japan-EU-Japan Fest. Let's note that the Japanese dance group's band is comprised of musicians from the OREKA TX group, a band which will performed at the same time with KUKAI DANCE COMPANY, which representing Spain at the Contemporary Dance Festival.

The collaboration with the European Capital of Culture - Pafos 2017 contributes at the same time to the expansion of the Festival's presentation space, which is being extended for the very first time, beyond Limassol and Nicosia, in Pafos.

This year's Contemporary Dance Festival includes eight performances from seven countries. Cyprus will participate with the two groups that have stood out at this year's Contemporary Dance Platform, on the 11th of June at Pallas Theatre in Nicosia. Four performances will take place at Rialto Theatre, which is the main venue of the Festival. France, Israel, Austria and Switzerland will be performing for two consecutive weekends, 17 and 18 of June and on the 24th and 25th of June respectively. The festival will be completed with the performances of Japan and Spain, which will take place on the 26th and 27th of June, at Attikon Open Air Theatre in Pafos.

Responsible for the organization are, as every year, the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Rialto Theatre, in collaboration with the Embassies and Cultural Centers of the participating countries.
