Olga, Masha, and Irina Prozorov live with their brother, Andrey, on the edge of a small Russian town. They are obsessed over the dream of moving back to the big city where they were raised, looking forward to returning to their old lifestyle. Olga, the eldest, is a teacher at the high-school, Masha is married to Kulygin, a teacher of far more years, who has not lived up to her stature and Irina, the youngest, dreams of a life far away from the town she lives in. Andrey, who has married Natasha, a harsh and domineering woman, abandons his intellectual dreams to be become a professor at the University in Moscow and leads an indifferent lifestyle, gambling his fortune away. The three sisters live passively their lives in the province, visited by various military officers, guests and entertainers, that remind them of their boredom and their need to live a different life, filled with liveliness, love and happiness. Soon, the officers are called away and the three sisters are left alone with unfulfilled dreams, trying to give meaning to their existence.

Director’s Note
It is hard to talk about Chekhov. He belongs to a category of playwrights that you fell and live through their work, rather than analyse them. Since I first read the play, I fell in love with it and since, I have read it over and over … and over. Until the decision was taken; that I wanted to take this journey, and with me, as fellow travellers, have a myriad of trusted collaborators. Persons that I trust, respect their talent, their work, their professionalism. The show has been heightened by original score from Themis Karamouratides, whom I especially thank for his inspiration and input. I also thank all other cast and crew for entrusting me, for all their effort and professionalism but, above all, for this wonderful voyage. A voyage that has become the performance, and alongside the performance, a dream comes true. And yes, “each one’s Moscow, might not seem so distant anymore…”
