 more

The Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture, in collaboration with the RIALTO Theater, are organizing the 18th Cyprus Contemporary Dance Platform on March 2, 3 and 4. At this year's Platform, and according to its announcement, new works of contemporary dance (solo, duet or performances with more people) are presented for the first time. In this context, 7 new proposals of well-established and younger choreographers have been selected by the Selection Committee and will be presented at this year's Contemporary Dance Festival.

The main program features as every year a series of parallel events organized by Dance House Lemesos under the title "Dance Throughout the Year 2018", enriching the whole event with choreographic works that were presented in the past year.

At the same time, the project Blast from the Past: A retrospective to the future, continues for the third consecutive year and it is curated by the Blast team, proposing a different approach to how we see the historical evolution of contemporary dance in Cyprus.

Within the framework of the Platform a discussion is organised with the participation of the organizers, guests, choreographers and the dance community, about the future and the prospect of developing both the organization itself and contemporary dance in Cyprus.

The performances and events of the Platform will take place in addition to the Rialto Theater, the Dance House and the Heroes' Square basement, thus transferring the feeling of celebration throughout the Square and the wider area.

Upon the invitation of the organizers, representatives of international festivals and celebrities from the international dance communitythis will be attended the events of the Platform and will engage with the creators and the public. In particular, Ann-Elisabeth Wolff, Director of Euro-Scene Festival - Leipzig, Yair Valdi, Director at Suzanne Dellal Center for Dance in Tel Aviv, Christiana Galanopoulou, Artistic Director of the MIR Festival - Athens and Dimitris Athenakis, Cultural Editor of "Kathimerini" newspaper in Greece.
