6th INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL OF CYPRUS

BUILDING BRIDGES WITH AFRICA, THE MIDDLE AND FAR EAST:

THE PARALLEL PROGRAMME OF SCREENINGS AT ISFFC

 

A diverse and dynamic parallel programme of screenings will be presented this year at the 6th International Short Film Festival of Cyprus, aside the main competition.  Showcasing short films from across the globe that deal with universal issues and building bridges with Africa, the Middle and Far East, the Festival is gradually becoming a cultural cinema hub between Europe and the world.

Maisha Film Lab: A selection of shorts from Africa

Sunday 16/10 - 11p.m., Heroes' Square

For the second year in a row, the ISFFC presents a selection of African shorts from the Maisha Film Laboratory for East Africans, a non profit organisation aiming at offering practical education to young filmmakers and the means to produce films through which the rich tradition and history of Uganda is expressed. 

Focussing on the environment (Short Shorts Festival, Τόκυο)

Tuesday 18/10 - 11p.m., Heroes' Square

The screenings of this parallel programme will take place in collaboration with Short Shorts (Tokyo). Short Shorts is a qualifying film festival of the Annual Academy Awards and one of the largest short film festivals in Asia. The programme includes the films selected for "Save the Earth! Competition", which was established in 2008 as "STOP! Global Warming Competition" and was reborn as the "Save the Earth! Competition" in 2013 to introduce films with themes related to wider environmental concerns.

Understanding reality (Lebanon, Syria):  Screenings on board a ship

Thursday 20/10 - 11p.m. Departing from Limassol Old Port

Short films made by teenage refugees from Syria and Lebanon, from disadvantaged communities. With the support of UNHCR - United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

C. P. Cavafy in Tokyo

Daily, 7 - 11p.m., #isffc2016gallery (Rialto Cafe-Bar - 1st floor)

The ISFFC presents a collection of animation films inspired by Cavafy’s poetry made by students of the Musashino Art University, Tokyo. The project was developed on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of C.P. Cavafy during a workshop led by professor Dino Sato. It is presented for the first time to audiences in Cyprus.

The #isffc2016gallery is a new addition to this year's Festival programme. The Rialto cafe-bar, on the theatre's first floor, will be transformed to host a series of screenings in a loop.

Films for Primary School students

Monday 17/10 - 9a.m., Rialto Theatre

The Festival artistic directors, Alexia Roider and Ioakim Mylonas, have programmed a slot of screenings for primary school students, offering them the opportunity to watch short films from across the world and familiarise them with the short film.

Aspects of the Fantastic

Monday 17/10 - 11p.m., Heroes' Square

A selection of the best animation shorts which have been screened and awarded at the 15th edition of Countryside Animafest Cyprus 2016. Curated by Yiorgos Tsaggaris.

Amaze Me

Friday 21/10 - 11p.m., Heroes' Square

For the fourth year running, a competition programme with top notch music videos from around the world is presented, judged by students of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, of the Cyprus University of Technology . The programme will be screened during the closing party of the Festival.

Sixpackfilm: Be Alternative!

Daily, 7 - 11p.m., #isffc2016gallery (Rialto Cafe - Bar - 1st floor)

A collection of exceptional, award winning experimental shorts and video art projects presented in collaboration with Gerald Weber, Deputy Managing Director of Sixpackfilm Austria.

The Festival is organised by the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Rialto Theatre.
