Cyprus Film Days International Festival, the largest international film event in Cyprus dedicated exclusively to contemporary world cinema and fiction feature films, returns for its seventeeth edition at the Rialto Theatre, in Limassol and Zena Palace Cinema, in Nicosia. The Festival is organised by the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Rialto Theatre.

An international competition programme (Glocal Images), premieres of films which have been awarded at inernational festivals (Viewfinder), a Cypriot Films Competition Programme, film tributes, parallel events for children and youth along with music events compose this year's exciting programme of Cyprus Film Days. 

The Jury will be comprised of acclaimed personalities from the international film industry, while invited directors and producers will be attending their film screenings in Cyprus to discuss with the audience. The Festival proudly releases three titles of the multi- awarded films which will be presented this year: Girl by Lukas Dhont, Dogman by Matteo Garrone, and The Guilty by Gustav Möller.

The Festival will take place from the 12th to the 20th of April 2019, and it will culminate with the Awards Ceremony at the Rialto Theatre.

Cyprus Film Days (and nights) full of international and local film gems!

With a multi-dimensional screenings programme, Cyprus Film Days introduces films that represent the international tendencies, thematics and aesthetic approaches that are currently dominant in film worldwide. The selection of films and programming of screenings and parallel events, is undertaken by a three-member Artistic Committee, consisting of director - producer Tonia Mishiali, film scholar Dr Costas Constantinides and director- producer Marios Stylianou.

The Awards

A five member International Jury will award the Glocal Images Best Film Award, accompanied by the amount of €6,000, the Glocal Images Special Jury Award, accompanied by the amount of €3,000 and the Glocal Images Best Director Award, accompanied by the amount of €1,000. 

In the Cypriot Films Competition Programme, the Jury will award the Best Cypriot Film Award, accompanied by the amount of €4,000, the Best Cypriot Director Award, accompanied by DCP Mastering – Deliverables - Subtitles services worth of €3,500 and sponsored by Authorwave, and the Best Actor/Actress Award (National Competition Section), accompanied by the amount of €500 and offered by the Limassol Municipality. All films in competition will automatically be eligible for the Audience Award, as voted by the Festival viewers.

Films suitable for... "under 18s!"
Aiming to entertain, inspire and educate young audiences about the art of cinema, the Festival presents for yet another year the Cyprus Film Days for Children & Youth, showcasing film screenings, film workshops and parallel events for audiences from 8 to 18 years old. Cypriot film director Petros Charalambous has been appointed as the artistic director of the Cyprus Film Days for Children & Youth.

Cinematographic education remains in focus
Continuing its efforts as a developing educational and entertainment platform for film, the Festival goals remain the enhancement of the art of fiction film, the further development of cinematographic education in Cyprus and the establishment of the island as a meeting point for cinema professionals and cinemagoers alike. The Festival will honor the Cypriot filmmakers this year with the Cypriot Films Competition Programme. Through the work of the Cypriot film directors, Cyprus gradually moves under the spotlight with regards to creating the grounds for international collaborations, and becoming an excellent location for filming and producing. Moreover, with the organisation of film workshops and masterclasses, acclaimed international film professionals will present some of their valuable knowledge and experience to aspiring local filmmakers, established film professionals and audiences, offering the chance for a high level of film education.
