Cyprus Film Days 2023|IMAN

Synopsis
Abdallah, an Arab Muslim civil engineer married to Greek Cypriot Irene, has to come to terms with his own responsibility in the collapse of a building in an Arab refugee settlement, which caused the death of seven people. Having been radicalized, Iman and Leila, two young Europeans of Arab origin, are sent to Cyprus, with a secret mission. Michelle, a lonely 17-year-old girl, falls for Angelos, a handsome, domineering young man. Ultimately, the three stories will overlap in an unexpected way.

Biography
Cyprus-born Corinna Avraamidou studied Film and Television Directing at the London Goldsmiths’ College and the New York Film Academy. Since 1992 she has been working at the CYBC specialising in writing and directing drama productions. She has directed mainly period dramas, winning various local awards for best series. In 2001, she wrote and directed the short film The Secret of the First Day, which won first prize for screenplay at the 2nd International Short Film Festival of Cyprus. In 2008 she wrote and directed her first feature film, entitled The Last Homecoming, which won Best New Director award at the 2009 Alexandria International Film Festival (Egypt) and Best Film at the 2009 London Greek Film Festival, and was distributed by Vanguard Distribution USA for Canada and the USA.

Kyriacos Tofarides studied Theatre Directing and Acting, receiving a post-graduate degree in Film and Television Directing at the National Academy of Theatre and Film Art in Sofia, Bulgaria. He worked as a television director at the CYBC, directing entertainment programmes and drama productions. He produced and directed several short films. He is the producer of the award-winning film The Last Homecoming. In 2013, Kyriacos produced and directed his first feature film titled BLOCK 12, which won Special Jury Award at Cyprus Film Days IFF, European Film Awards Selection 2013, Best Concept for Fiction Feature, Best Screenplay, Best Actress (Carmen Ruggeri) at London Greek Film Festival, 2014, as well as Special Jury Award at the 5th International Comedy Film Festival, Gabrovo, 2014. IMAN is his second feature film.
