Some performances are regarded as milestones in theatre; Angela Papazoglou by Yiorgis Papazoglou, featuring Anna Vagena, is one of them.

Angela was first staged in 1999 and is now the longest-running production with the same lead actress, having been staged continuously for 26 years. The play is based on the memories of the remarkable Asia Minor Greek, Angeliki Papazoglou, wife of the rebetiko musician Vaggelis Papazoglou. In her recollections, she speaks of Smyrna at a time when Greeks shaped the city’s life. Then came the catastrophe, the uprooting, the resettlement of the refugees in Greece, and the struggle they undertook to prosper and put down new roots, bringing with them the light of Asia Minor — its culture and its soul.
