Chunky Funky & Soulful Groove Collective

On the occasion of International Jazz Day—the worldwide initiative established by UNESCO that honours jazz as a living, borderless language of freedom, dialogue, and cultural exchange—Chunky Funky & Soulful Groove Collective appear live at Rialto Theatre, Limassol, on Thursday, 30 April 2026 at 20:30, for a concert that presents jazz in a direct, contemporary and highly engaging live setting.

International Jazz Day is celebrated annually around the world as a global recognition of jazz not only as a musical genre, but as a cultural force that brings people together across backgrounds and borders. Under the auspices of UNESCO, the day highlights jazz as a platform for dialogue, inclusion, and creativity, and is marked by performances, educational events, and collaborations that take place in major cultural centres and local communities alike. It reflects jazz’s unique ability to evolve continuously while remaining rooted in improvisation, exchange, and shared expression.

Within this international context, the concert at Rialto Theatre joins a worldwide programme of performances dedicated to celebrating the vitality of jazz today. It brings together two creative ensembles—Chunky Funky and Soulful Groove Collective (SGC)—in a single evolving stage experience that reflects the spirit of the day: collaboration, openness, and musical conversation without boundaries.

The performance is designed as an unfolding musical journey rather than a fixed set. It opens with the intimate trio format of Chunky Funky, where groove, space, and interaction establish a focused and compelling foundation. As the evening progresses, Soulful Groove Collective (SGC) joins the stage, expanding the sound into a fuller, more energetic ensemble that adds depth and momentum to the performance.

As the two ensembles merge, the concert develops into a continuous flow of rhythm and improvisation, where transitions happen organically on stage and the music grows in real time. This structure keeps the energy evolving throughout the evening, creating a live experience shaped by spontaneity, interplay, and collective expression.
