Royal Classical Ballet
The Royal Classical Ballet theatre, under the direction of Lyudmila Titova, was founded in 2016 and has already won the hearts of audiences around the world.
On December 17 in Limassol, the theatre will present the two-act ballet “Cinderella” to the music of Sergei Prokofiev, based on the fairy tale by Charles Perrault.
The original libretto and production are the result of a creative collaboration between Sofya Gaidukova and Konstantin Matulevsky, laureates of Russian and international competitions. The curtain rises, and the audience finds themselves inside a magical book, both literally and figuratively. The elaborate sets and props create the illusion of a fantastical world. Paper illustrations seem to come alive, springing from the pages of children’s storybooks to become characters inhabiting a fairy-tale kingdom where everyone loves and knows how to dance. The best dancer, of course, is the King himself, who gladly teaches his people the art of dance. The clumsy, lazy stepsisters Snappy and Silly, led by their Stepmother, fail to succeed despite their overwhelming self-confidence. Their foolishness and ill nature prevent them from moving gracefully across the ballroom floor. Cinderella, on the other hand, modest and hardworking, learns everything effortlessly. Her dance captivates the Prince.
The fateful strikes of the clock break the enchantment cast by the kind Fairy Godmother — the carriage turns back into a pumpkin — but the charm of innocence and simplicity, so rare at court, remains powerful over the young heir’s heart and drives him to search for his beloved. The performance is built on neoclassical choreography, where traditional ballet steps alternate with unexpected body movements and the free plasticity typical of modern dance. This style conveys the atmosphere of the fairy-tale kingdom in the most vivid way.
“Cinderella” by S. Gaidukova and K. Matulevsky is a colorful, joyful, and vibrant production, full of humor embedded in Prokofiev’s music. The ballet will bring delight to both children and adults — for, after all, every grown-up is a child at heart who sometimes wishes to believe in a good fairy tale, if only for a couple of hours.
