Celebrating ten years of artistic presence in Cyprus, Theatro AntiLogos, in co-production with Solo for Three (Solo gia Treis), presents its summer production, titled The Square: a brand-new entertaining comedy brimming with laughter, reflection and tenderness.

Have you ever said, “Keep quiet, and we'll get through this”? To keep quiet means to pretend. To sit quietly and play the fool. Deep down, you wish you could go unnoticed... But how often do you find yourself playing a part that isn’t yours?

Sometimes you keep quiet just out of fear – for the little battles and the big ones, right? Meet us in The Square.

Written especially for this production, the play invites audiences to take part in a celebration: a shared theatrical experience where truth, music and humour intertwine. Created by Eleni Anastasiou and Aris Kyprianou, The Square brings to life stories from three generations of Cypriots, focusing on the questions and concerns that shape our lives today.

This year, we will meet in The Square – a place both real and symbolic: the square at the heart of the play, the square of Old Aglantzia where our regular performances will take place, and the village centres and community hubs that will host the production as it travels across Cyprus.

An ensemble of established and emerging artists comes together for this production. Seven actors and a musician on stage, alongside a distinguished creative team, will shape the atmosphere of the square: the village fairground square, the place where we meet, where we speak or remain silent, where we simply pass by. Our Square will give voice to a collectiveness that once remained invisible.

Neither the title nor the choice of venue is accidental. Throughout history, public squares have been spaces of democracy, civic engagement and public debate, as well as natural homes for theatre itself. They are places where Argument and Counterargument coexist; where society ceases to be a collection of individuals and becomes a living body through fairs, performances, conversations, healthy disagreements and encounters. In this Square, we will share anxieties, jokes, gossip, fears and reflections. At a time when communication is changing, communities are growing more distant and democracy itself is threatened, we return to where it all began: to meet one another face to face and engage with ourselves and those around us.
