The autobiographical novel of French writer Romain Gary Promise at Dawn was published in 1960 yet remains the writer’s most famous work to this day. He is the only writer who was honoured with a Goncourt Prize under two names.
The idea of dramatising the novel on stage of the most famous Russian Theatre named after Vakhtangov belongs to young stage director Leila Abu-Аl-Kishek.
This performance is a declaration of love for the mother, it is about the relationship between what was planned and what was achieved, what was promised and what happened...
The entire life of writer Romain Gary resembles an exciting adventure novel. He was born in Vilno, Russian Empire (today Vilnius) on the eve of the First World War. Together with his mother, he moved to Nice, later on served in aviation, became General Consul of France and Knight of the Legion of Honour.
Let as “read” Romain Gary together. His thoughts and reflections, sincere confessions, biting characteristics, his humour bordering with sarcasm, a textbook for real men and, in general, a story of loneliness.
The main roles are played by Grigory Antipenko and Honoured Artist of Russia Anna Dubrovskaya, both leading artists of the Vakhtangov Theater.
