Rialto Summer Cinema

Rialto Summer Cinema is back! Offering a cinematic experience in the heart of the city, under the stars of July

Rialto Summer Cinema, with a long history in summer screenings, has revived in recent years, giving its audience the chance to enjoy interesting movies in a beautiful, relaxed atmosphere in the SEK's parking (behind Rialto Theatre). Three new films, all produced in 2017, which have social content, but accompanied by a lot of laughter, are proposing this year's Rialto Summer Cinema.

Sunday 22.7 - L'ora legale
2017 (92’) In Italian, with Greek and English subtitles

Italian box-office smash hit of 2017, It’s the law, directed by Ficarra and Picone, is one of the finest and most acclaimed comedies of the past years. Exasperated by the scandals and power abuse of their long-time mayor, the moment has arrived for the residents of a Sicilian town to elect a new one who promises to serve them with honesty. But the community will soon discover that change and legality require sacrifices. Desperate to return to their old rules, they will do anything to force the new mayor to resign.

Cast: Ficarra, Picone, Vincenzo Amato, Antonio Catania, Sergio Friscia, Eleonora De Luca

Tuesday 24.7 - The Death of Stalin
2017 (106') In English, with Greek subtitles

An anti-authoritarian black satire by Scottish director Armando Iannucci. Superbly cast, The Death of Stalin is a film with a generous dose of humour that culminates, after an endless series of tragicomic intrigues, in cold-war Kremlin where mighty Joseph Stalin suffers a stroke and falls into a coma. A frantic power struggle begins amongst his cronies, who all wish to become the next Soviet leader.

With irony and surrealism, the director revives in an excessive, yet hilariously dramatic way, the atmosphere of the Stalin era.

Cast: Οlga Kurylenko Tom Brooke, Paddy Considine, Justin, Edwards, Adrian McLoughlin, Steve Buscemi.

Wednesday 25.7 - À bras ouverts
2017 (92’) In French, with Greek and English subtitles

After the success of his 2014 comedy Serial (Bad) Weddings, director and screenwriter Philippe de Chauveron returns to the big screen with another comic film With Open Arms, illustrating the ‘tolerance’ of the ensconced bourgeoisie towards those who are ‘different’: poor, homeless and immigrant people. This fierce comedy with a powerful social message, tells the story of a left-wing celebrity intellectual who openly supports the need to altruistically welcome all sorts of refugees, but struggles to live up to his words when a Romani family camps on the front yard of his luxurious house.

Cast: Christian Clavier, Ary Abittan, Elsa, Zylberstein, Cyril Lecomte, Nanou Garcia, Oscar Berthe
