Jarmusch brings together an outstanding ensemble (Cate Blanchett, Adam Driver, Tom Waits and Charlotte Rampling) to weave three self-contained stories exploring the intricate bonds between parents and children, suffused with his signature understated humour, in a production by Saint Laurent. Eschewing judgment, he simply observes. A work of remarkable maturity and rare balance, the film received the Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival.

Father, Mother, Sister, Brother is a meticulously structured triptych. All three stories revolve around the relationships of adult children with their somewhat distant parents, as well as among themselves. Each chapter takes place in the present, in a different location: New Jersey, Dublin and Paris. Through these three narratives, Jarmusch creates a deeply human and tender portrait of family life, where silence speaks louder than words.

Jim Jarmusch is an American director, screenwriter, musician and producer, born in 1953 in Akron, Ohio, and widely regarded as one of the most iconic figures of independent American cinema. He studied literature and film at Columbia University and became known for his minimalist, existential and often humorous style. His filmography, including Stranger Than Paradise (1984), Down by Law (1986), Dead Man (1995), Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999), Broken Flowers (2005) and Paterson (2016), is characterised by a slow pace, idiosyncratic characters, a strong musical presence, and influences drawn from literature and poetry. Alongside filmmaking, he is actively involved in music, notably as a member of the band Sqürl, and his work has had a profound impact on global independent cinema.
