The most important festival of Contemporary Dance in our country, starts on Wednesday 1st of June, with the group of Israel. Our neighboring country has established an important tradition in modern dance and constantly participates in the organization in recent years as part of the Festival’s opening on the wider region.
Award-winning choreographer Rachel Erdos presents Black/White with an all-male cast exploring masculinity, sexuality and faith. Hevel is dark and rock-and-roll while The Man Upstairs has a softer, purer touch. The two halves are presented back-to-back as a full evening performance. Hevel, with 6 male dancers, explores a spectrum of maleness from testosterone and power to vulnerability and loneliness.
The Man Upstairs is a trio performed under cascading sand, set to original music. This piece is inspired by gestures taken from Jewish ritual, the dancers question faith rooted in belief of a higher power and in the power of community.
