Royal Opera House Live Cinema brings world-class opera and ballet to cinemas, live and in high-definition direct from the stage of the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, to more than 1500 venues around the world, including Rialto Theatre in Cyprus, since 2013.
Within the Royal Opera House Live Cinema, Anastasia, Kenneth MacMillan’s powerful and compelling full length ballet, is screened live into Rialto Theatre on Sunday 20th November. Evocative sets and stunning costumes by Bob Crowley will transport audiences to the glittering heart of the Russian royal court and to the stark surroundings of a disturbed mind. Music by Tchaikovsky and Martinů
In its first performance by The Royal Ballet in over a decade, the live cinema screening of Anastasia features a stellar cast of critically acclaimed Principal dancers. Russian star Natalia Osipova takes on the title role with Marianela Nuñez as Kschessinksa, Federico Bonelli as ‘Her Partner, Edward Watson as ’The Husband’ and Thiago Soares as the sinister Rasputin. A powerful, psychological challenge for the principal ballerina, this is a rare opportunity to see a landmark ballet by a major choreographer.
An identity in crisis; a country in revolution. Anastasia is a ballet about one of the great historical mysteries of the 20th century, only recently solved. At the height of the Russian Revolution the royal family were executed, but afterwards a young woman appeared – apparently a surviving royal princess, the Grand Duchess Anastasia. Known as 'Anna Anderson', she couldn't remember her past and she was presumed to be an imposter. Many wanted to forget the massacre and the Revolution; many believed, or hoped, that a princess could have survived, a remnant of the old world.
